Remember
I look at your names,
Then see your faces,
Then I look in this shining black granite
And see my face.
And for this brief moment in time
We are together again.
I remember when how one minute we were laughing
And the next we were crying.
I remember when one of us would start to fall apart
Another of us would pull him back together.
I remember how we were all special to each other.
A feeling long since gone.
Never to be experienced again.
It seems that we were willing to die for each other,
And some of us did.
I wish I could capture what we all once had.
So many things seemed so clear back then.
We came home and then confusion reigned.
The world turned on us and sometimes we turned on each other.
Then this wall was born.
Then we were allowed to remember.
Then we were allowed to talk,
Not only to each other, but to anyone willing to listen.
Now our story is told.
The world knows who we are.
Your names etched in black granite made this all possible.
I remember you then.
I remember you now.
I will remember you always.

I was born and raised in Lorain County. I was there for the initial dedication
and know of Don Attie and everyone else very well. I have since relocated
to Southern Ohio and when I get a little homesick, I surf the internet and
usually
end up at the webpage for the Lorain County Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial.
Words can never describe what goes through my heart each and every time I
look at that memorial. You all have done a wonderful job in paying homage
to those
98 fallen comrades!! I miss you all!
In comradeship and advocacy,
Jim Younkin Jr.
(Former Lorain County Veteran Service Office Director)

This great memorial in Ohio serves as a fine tribute to our fallen brothers.
As a fellow Vietnam veteran, I offer my sincere condolences to the families and
friends of those who gave so much. Please remember that we men and women who
came back from that war will never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
God be with them.

This Thank you is long overdue, but as overdue as the memorial to the '98. "I
knew one of the men from school, he was a really great guy. it was such a shame
to lose him (as well as the others) I am proud of the work everyone did on the
memorial site. Now when my grandchildren ask about the Vietnam War, we visit
the memorial and I give them the best history lesson they can that I can. Thank
you Everyone! They would be proud..

Thank you to all of you who have worked so hard to put together both this website
and this beautiful memorial. My uncle died in Vietnam, and though I never got
the chance to meet him, it's nice to know that there will be a place to go
to honor him. A place to go where all of us can honor those we loved and lost....
