Our
heartfelt thanks to Kathy Nord, sister of James Frisina, for
her very generous donation in memory of her brother. Jim was a dedicated
Committee member. It is nice that Jim was able to see the fruit of his
labor before passing. His family will always have the Memorial to visit
and remember Jim.
Would you be able to doing a small sewing project? The flags at the Memorial are donated by our generous patrons. We would like to protect them against the strong Ohio winds a bit by having someone straight stich the edges of any new flag to avoid the shredding that rapidly occurs. Would that be something with which you could assist? Please email our website or call a Committee member (telephone numbers are listed at the end of this page) if you'd be able to help preserve our flags. Thank you!
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Committee
of Lorain County needs help with a project. We believe this could be
an excellent
project for a Boy Scout
who is working on his Eagle Scout goal. It also is excellent for any Girl
Scout, 4H member, or anyone interested in research and preservation. It
would require one who has great attention to detail, and is skilled using
a computer with knowledge of spreadsheets or tables or database software.
We have hundreds of engraved pavers, in sections and rows, at the Memorial.
These engraved pavers are dedicated to many veterans, living and dead, along
with various dedications to other very special people. We need to create
a map/grid/layout of the site, a spreadshet or some record
form of what is engraved (key words) on each paver in each row and section.
Many people
come
to the
Memorial looking for their paver(s) which they purchased. Unfortunately,
the pavers information has been passed and repassed over the years and computers
have crashed leaving no original record of the exact locations
of where they were installed. We want to solve that problem by creating
a labeled grid and database for them so when they want to know where their
paver is, we can tell them
the exact location. Please email our
Website should you be able to assist us in this much needed project.
Thank you.
All flagpoles have now been adopted!! The following individuals and organizations

The First Anniversary of the Memorial
Dedication
Saturday, June 21, 11 AM
Plans are being made for a special reunion and ceremony to be held at the Memorial.
Our 98 sons have a beautiful tribute now to call theirs. The thank you's from
family throughout this year has been incredibly moving. However, it is the families
that breathed the soul into the Memorial. We sincerely thank you for all that
you have given us.
Please
return
for this first anniversary.
All will be in our thoughts and prayers
that day. Please contact us if you should have
any questions or suggestions.
The DVD of the Dedication is complete and
will be available at the First Anniversary of the Memorial Dedication
If you are unable to attend that day, feel free to
contact this website and arrangements
can be made for payment and delivery via U.S. Postal mail.
The Vigil -
The 21st annual Memorial Day Vigil on Saturday, May 24, 6 PM - Midnight was
held at the Memorial. What a beautiful tribute to the 98 Heroes! So simple, yet
so moving. Some stayed hours, some visitors
stayed minutes. All were welcomed and appreciated. It's sometimes difficult to
travel back in to that time. And yet, it is comforting to know others understand.
The consolation over our losses has found a safe place. Our 98 are honored
and remembered.

Congratulations to Don Attie! Don
was nominated as Veteran Of The Year. As Don said, "I'm honored just
to be nominated." And we are honored to have you working so hard for
our 98 Heroes, Don. Although he did not receive the award, a thunderous
standing ovation was given to Don when his name was mentioned by Lorain
Mayor Anthony Krasienko during his closing remarks. You are certainly our
Veteran Of The Year!
